ATHENS, W.Va. (Hinton News) – Event organizers are actively planning the annual Athens-Concord Town Social event to be held on Sunday, August 18 from 1-4 p.m. The event coincides with Concord University’s freshmen orientation weekend, an exciting opportunity to welcome new students to the area as well as reunite the many attendees who look forward to the event each year.

Food vendors, community groups, local businesses, regional artists, Concord University organizations, and Athens High School reunion groups will gather in the front yard of the Jean and Jerry L. Beasley Student Center to celebrate the 36th year of this tradition.

Anna Hardy, chair of the Town Social Committee and Chief Student Affairs Officer and Dean of Students at CU says of the event, “We are thrilled to invite everyone to the annual Athens-Concord Town Social on Sunday, August 18th. This event is a wonderful opportunity to unite our students and the town, fostering a sense of community and togetherness. With craft vendors, food vendors, a variety of activities, and live music from Alabaster Boxer and The Allen Smith Band, it’s set to be an exciting day for people of all ages! We look forward to celebrating with you and strengthening the bond between Concord University and the Athens community.”

Area car enthusiasts will display their prized automobiles at the social’s car show taking place from noon until 3 PM. Prizes will be awarded, including “The President’s Choice” award, given by CU President Kendra Boggess. The car show is growing each year. Registration for the car show will take place from 11 AM to noon, on-site only.
