SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – The Summers County Recycling Collections Center has a new expanded schedule and is now open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Center, located at 2128 Greenbrier Drive in Hinton, accepts #1 and #2 plastics, cardboard, tin, aluminum, paper, and tires (standard size, not on rims, limit 10 per month per Summers County resident). But did you know the Center also gives? They have clean egg cartons available for free, as well as free moving boxes (call in advance to make certain they’re available), and those with gardens and pets often come to get shredded paper, newspaper, and cardboard.
Pre-sorting recyclables is advised as theirs is a self-sorting operation. They also request that lids be removed from water and pop bottles since lids can become projectiles during the smashing process. It is important that items be rinsed prior to recycling to remove food and sugar remnants, which attract insects and vermin. Spoiled food left in a container can cause an entire load to be contaminated and rejected.
The Center recently hired a new Director of Operations, Zachary Kelly. Kelly brings a wealth of knowledge in information technology, security, procurement, and government contracts. His military experience and strong work ethic have already made an impact.
Kelly, along with Karin Patton, the Recycling Center’s Coordinator, have exciting plans in the works for expanding the Center in ways that will greatly benefit our community.
