Roger Paul Grimmett
May 22, 1941 –December 14, 2023
Roger Paul Grimmett went to his lord and savior peacefully on December 14, 2023, at the age of 82.
He was born in Hinton, WV, on May 22, 1941, to the late Jesse Paul Grimmett and Elizabeth Imogene Lilly. He moved to Hampton, VA, and married his soulmate, Ruth Ann Swift, on July 11, 1963.
Roger made the rank as a detective with the Virginia State Police, within the division, he also was trained to disarm explosive devices and became a member of the Bomb Squad. Roger solved a multitude of crimes, arrested plenty of bad folks, helped some people, and blew up a lot of stuff throughout his career. He retired in 1995 from the state police and started another career as a real-estate agent with Century 21 Nachman Realty and did very well with that too.
Roger was very active in his church and its youth programs. He always wanted to help others; his generosity and his humor would touch countless lives.
Along with his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Grimmett. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Roberta Wheeler; sisters-in-law, Barbara Grimmett of Hinton, WV, James Grimmett (Samantha) of Yorktown; daughter, Betty J. Barrett of Hampton; grandsons, Christian Jace Grimmett of Hampton, Paul R. Grimmett (Brittany), and Ryan J. Grimmett of Gloucester; great-grandsons, Cael and Hunter Grimmett of Hampton; great-granddaughter, Emma C. Grimmett of Gloucester; also several nieces and nephews; a host of friends from his church family; and many longtime friends and neighbors.
A Public Visitation for Roger was held Wednesday, December 20, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666. A Funeral Service occurred Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 2 p.m., 2551 North Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666. An Interment with honors followed at 3 p.m. at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA 23666.
