TALCOTT W.Va. (Hinton News) – Community pride was evident recently as the local elementary school parking lot was inundated with a sea of Kelly Green. Pirates, past and present, showed up to honor a local coach and view the newly renovated Talcott School Gym. On Saturday, Oct. 28, the old Talcott School Gymnasium was rededicated in honor of Dallas “Bud” Mann, a legendary coach who served the community for over 30 years. The gymnasium, which was originally built in 1936, has been a staple of the Talcott community for generations and has hosted countless sporting events, concerts, and other community gatherings over the years.

The rededication ceremony was attended by a large crowd of community members, including former students, athletes, and colleagues of Coach Mann. The ceremony began with a welcome from Summers County Schools Superintendent, David Warvel, who spoke about the importance of the gymnasium to the community and the impact that Coach Mann had on countless lives.

Next, former students and athletes along with current and past school staff were recognized for their part in getting the gym updated and rededicated. Many of the speakers spoke about how Coach Mann inspired them to be their best, both on and off the court. They also spoke about the many ways in which the gymnasium has served as a gathering place for the community over the years. Additionally, representatives from Coach Mann’s family, the County Commission, the School Board and a Senator’s office attended and spoke.

The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a new plaque at the entrance to the gymnasium, which reads:

“Dallas ‘Bud’ Mann Gymnasium: Dedicated in appreciation of his outstanding service to the students of Talcott.”

The rededication of the Talcott School Gymnasium is a fitting tribute to Coach Mann and his legacy. The gymnasium is a place where countless young people have learned valuable life lessons, and it will continue to serve the Talcott community for many years to come.

The rededication of the Talcott School Gymnasium is a reminder of the importance of community and the power of school pride to bring people together. It is also a reminder of the impact that one person can have on a community and the legacy that Coach Mann left behind.
