FAIRLEA W.Va. (WVDN) – During the recent horse shows at the State Fair of West Virginia, Barbie Rader or Gassaway, West Virginia secured the coveted Mary Evelyn Hylton trophy in the Country Pleasure Grand Championship. In a public Facebook post, Rader said, “What an honor. She was one of my heroes.”
Following the win, Rader was presented with the trophy by Hylton’s daughter, Vickie Hylton Pickering. Additionally, the trophy was donated by the Southern West Virginia Show and Trail Club.
The award was created to honor and pay tribute to its namesake. Hylton was a local legend in the horse show circuit and held the respect of many. She was an all-around horsewoman who was known for her dapple gray Plantation Pleasure horse, Gray Ghost.
