SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Hinton News) – State Treasurer Riley Moore visited South Charleston on Monday, August 7, to present an unclaimed property check worth more than $47,000 to West Virginia University Medicine Thomas Memorial Hospital.

“As State Treasurer, I’m always honored to reunite individuals and businesses with their missing funds,” Treasurer Moore said. “I’m delighted Thomas Memorial Hospital is going to put the funds towards their Foundation, which has provided education opportunities for staff and vital support for patients and their families for over 34 years.”

Treasurer Moore presented an unclaimed property check worth $47,516.63 to WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals President and CEO Dr. Greg Rosencrance, Thomas Foundation Board Chair Jenny Parsons, Vice President of Operations Leslie Lawson and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Matthew Upton Monday morning at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

The check presentation is part of a larger effort to reunite WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals with its unclaimed funds. In addition to the unclaimed property check worth over $47,000, Charleston Hospital, Inc. (Saint Francis Hospital) received $7,058.71, and Thomas Health System received $735.78 worth of unclaimed property.

“I am appreciative of Treasurer Moore and his office for guiding us through the process of claiming these outstanding funds,” Dr. Greg Rosencrance, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals said. “The funds will be given to the Thomas Foundation to be used for services and equipment that will benefit the patients we serve at both Thomas Memorial and Saint Francis Hospitals.”

Additionally, Treasurer Moore recently announced that his Office’s Unclaimed Property Division returned a new record-high $26.8 million worth of unclaimed property to individuals, businesses and organizations during the Fiscal Year 2023 period that ended June 30. This far exceeds the record $18.6 million returned by the Office during the last fiscal year.

The State Treasurer’s Office now has more than $400 million in unclaimed property listings in its database. Visit www.WVUnclaimedProperty.gov to find out if the Office is holding any unclaimed funds for you or your family.
