SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – On Aug. 5, the audience was pulled into the mad, crazy world of Alice in an adaptation based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. This was the second performance of the Three Rivers Youth Theater Program created by Lisa Colombo (Lisa’s School of Dance, Music, and Design) and Cheryl Kula (local author). The first performance was held in April and was a series of short scenes and monologues. In the second performance, the young actors tackled a full-length play (around 40 minutes) in roles like Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the Caterpillar, the White Rabbit, the Pigeon, the Duchess, the Dormouse, and more.
The theater program will tackle their next challenge in the form of a musical, which will include singing and dancing. The musical is called The Real Story of Red Riding Hood and looks at the story from the point of view of the misunderstood Big Bad Wolf. The theater program is open to young actors from 4th through 12th grade. It is free to attend, although regular attendance and a dedication to learning parts and supporting fellow actors is required. Contact either Lisa Colombo or Cheryl Kula if interested. The next session begins on Aug. 14 and meets every Monday in the Memorial Building. Follow us on Facebook for details on practice sessions and performances.
Three Rivers Youth Theater Program wants to especially thank the Hinton Area Foundation, particularly the Ziegler & Gunnoe Art Fund, and Kiwanis for the funds and help with props and concessions. We also want to recognize the County Commission for giving us access to the Memorial building.
