HINTON, (Hinton News) – American Pro Wrestling is coming back to Hinton for another series of matches. George South Sr., a long-time wrestler who is participating in the event, recently spoke about his career, the upcoming performance, reuniting with his son for the show and West Virginia.

South has an extensive career, having wrestled for 41 years. Throughout his experiences, he has wrestled some of the biggest names in the industry, including Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. Additionally, South has trained several other professionals, such as Henry Godwin, another wrestler participating in the Hinton event, and his son, George Jr. Godwin is part of WWF and South said he is incredibly proud of his success.

“Henry Godwin, who is from WWF, is going to make an appearance when I come up there to be with y’all, I trained him, many years ago, he was one of my students. And just to see the success that he’s gained…” He added that, at the time he was training Godwin, George Jr. was around 10 or 11 years old.

South’s son is one of the wrestlers that will be part of the Hinton show. He said it will be a fun event, but for him, it will also be a family reunion. He stated, “This will be not only a great wrestling event but for me to be able to see Henry Godwin. My son will also get to see Henry Godwin for the first time in many years, so it’s not just a wrestling show this time for me, but it’s kind of a family reunion.”

The May show is not South’s first time in the Mountain State. He stated that he had a home in Princeton for many years and had done shows all over the state. He said, “Being able to come back to some of these great little towns is what I live for, and I love doing it.”

“All those towns and great people, and we’re coming back. So I’m excited. I was actually there in Hinton at the last show and got to see a lot of old friends and loved it so much. I’m coming back, and I’m bringing my son with me.”

South noted that he wants the community to know that their shows are not like what is seen in Hollywood. He said, “It’s pro wrestling. If it’s done right, is a place where you can bring your family. I know sometimes, on TV, it gets kind of crazy, gets kind of rough, and you say, ‘Man, I can’t let my kids watch that’ but that’s not us. We’re a great family-friendly event. We just have old-fashioned pro wrestling and some great guys. We got some young guys a lot of veterans like myself and if nothing else, people can come and see the reunion between my son and Henry Godwin. That’s going to be pretty neat, even for me.”

South stated that he is more than happy to interact with fans, sign autographs, etc. “If someone writes me an old-fashioned letter and asks for an autographed picture. I still send it. Wrestlers can’t believe I even do that, but, you know, we feel it. We try to keep it that tight-knit because the fans are what it’s all about.”

Unlike the last match in Hinton, South will be spending his time in the corner managing his son and Henry Godwin in a tag-team match. When asked who he thought would win, he said, “If I’m driving all that way, I guarantee you my son and Henry Godwin are going to win. They’ll be the new Tag Team Champions.”

Hinton News is giving away two ringside tickets to see the May 26 matches. To enter, go to the Hinton News Facebook page, and like and share the giveaway post. A winner will be chosen on Monday, May 22.
