HINTON, (Hinton News) – first performance of the 3 Rivers Youth Theater Program will occur on April 29 at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Building. The performance, Character Shorts, will include a variety of monologues and short scenes with two to five actors. Admission is free – come out to support the young actors of our community!
The 3 Rivers Youth Theater Program was formed by Lisa Colombo and Cheryl Kula with the goal of providing a theater program for grades 4 to 12. The goal of the program is to give the actors a chance to build their confidence to speak in front of groups, to be comfortable in their own skin, to give them an appreciation of the arts, and of course, to have as much fun as possible.
The young actors attended a four-week workshop in February 2023 where they worked on monologues, scenes, theater games, and improv. Since February, they have been preparing for their April performance. Every class, they warm up with tongue tanglers and practice performing on stage alone and with their fellow actors. They have put a lot of time and effort into mastering a lot of material.
3Rivers wants to especially thank the Hinton Area Foundation, particularly the Ziegler & Gunnoe fund, and thank Kiwanis for the funds for this program. We also want to recognize the County Commission for giving us access to the Memorial building for the classes, rehearsals, and of course, performances.
As a follow-up, we have scheduled two additional performances – one in August and one in November for larger performances. Follow us on Facebook for updates!
