HINTON, (Hinton News) – Summers County defeated Mingo Central 29-27 when they met on Tuesday evening for the Class AA, Region III championship game. Despite the 3.5-hour drive for Mingo fans from Delbarton, both teams had large and enthused fan groups. Fans from both teams were visibly anxious the entire game due to the close scoring.

This year is the third in a row that the Lady Bobcats and Lady Miners have met for the regional championship. Additionally, this marks the second year (in a row) Summers has won.

Gracie Harvey led the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 15 points and had the game-winning basket. Sullivan Pivont scored 5, Abby Persinger scored 4, Avery Lilly scored 3, and Cheyenne Smith scored 2.

For Mingo Central, Addie Smith led with 15 points. Madisyn Curry and Jenna Sparks followed with 4 points. Delaney Grimmett and Bella Hall each added 2.

Summers County will now head to the state tournament as the #1 seed in Class AA. They will take on #8 Frankfort on Wednesday, March 8, at 5:30 p.m. Please make the drive to Charleston to support your Lady Bobcats!
