After a two-year disruption during Covid, the Christmas Walk will return this year! It is said that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. This year it will indeed be wonderful in that we may finally come together and celebrate.
We celebrate the birth of our Savior. We celebrate the joy and love that this season represents. We celebrate with our families, our neighbors, our friends and those in our community. We can take that a step further and include those who have died and those who have yet to be born in our celebrations. And on a celestial level, we can celebrate with the angels and heavenly hosts!
The Christmas Walk will begin at 1st Christian Church at the corner of Temple and Seventh at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 10. It will follow the path of the luminaries and visit six of Hinton’s beautiful, historic churches. Each church will tell a part of the Christmas story and have a short presentation.
The Christmas Walk will culminate with a reception in the city park at Temple and Third with hot drinks and Christmas snacks. Christmas is truly a time to celebrate together.
The original Christmas walk undertaken by Joseph and Mary was under much different circumstances. It was a journey that they had no choice in making. It was a journey of about 100 miles on foot and by donkey. It was winter. There, the roads were not good. It was crowded. And of course, there were no rooms to rest overnight, no hospitals to help ease new birth into life. Yet the miracle occurred!
This walk honors that night and contains the beauty and spirit of the churches in Summers County that have interpreted the word of god in their churches and their missions for over a hundred years. It contains the spirit of the people, who love and serve God. And it contains all our hopes and expectations for the future because our faith is based on this baby.
Of course, the event is free and all people are welcome. The event is sponsored by Just Christians. We hope you can join us for this night of beauty, mystery and awe.
