SUMMERS COUNTY, (Hinton News) – After a spectacular season, the Summers County Youth Football Varsity Team earned a spot in the South Eastern Youth Football League Super Bowl. As a team, the varsity football players, the varsity and flag cheerleaders, and their coaches, traveled to Richwood for the big game on Saturday, Nov. 5. They faced off against the undefeated Fayetteville Pirates.
Although the Bobcats did not bring home the win, they did get the honor of being the only team to score against the Pirates all season. The game ended with a 14-8 score, Pirates.
Player Deandre Wynes scored a 6-point touchdown, and Justice Robinette scored two additional points. Coach Matt Stalnaker said they had an “awesome defense.”
To qualify for the Super Bowl, the Bobcats participated in a playoff against the Greenbrier West Cavaliers on Saturday, Oct. 29. They defeated their opponents and won the bid.

Coach Stalnaker said, “We have a talented, outstanding bunch of young men who all played their best. The whole coaching staff was very proud of them.” League Area Director Corey Holland added, “The community, staff and parents are all incredibly proud of these young men for their hard work and dedication.”
Holland and the coaching staff invite the community to come out and support the team at their games. While the high school plays on Fridays, the youth teams play on Saturdays.
While this season is over, the coaches, players, parents and other officials are eagerly planning for the next one. Many current youth team players plan to continue playing and eventually join the Summers County High School Bobcats.
Game dates and locations are regularly posted to the Summers County Youth Football Facebook page. For more information on attending games or to talk to someone about a child playing or cheering, reach out to the Facebook page via Messenger.
