Hinton, (Hinton News) – A $100.00 first prize is being offered for the Best Scarecrow in Hinton, WV. The contest will be held from October 1 until October 29. Anyone may enter the Campbell-Flannagan-Murrell House Museum (CFM) Scarecrow Contest. Entry is free and votes for the Best Scarecrow are $1.00 each. To enter, stop by the Museum (422 Summers St.) on Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. to complete an entry form, call 304-445-6584 or email us your name, address and phone number to cfm_fmh@yahoo.com.

VOTING: You may vote in person at the Museum any Saturday from 1-4 PM, or votes may also be cast anytime by passing them under the Museum door with the Scarecrow’s entry number and the $1.00 voting fee. You may also vote using PayPal on our web cfm_fmh.org. Just click on the events page.

“The Museum will post weekly updates of new entries and vote counts. The winner will be announced on Saturday, October 29, 2022,” said Carol Jackson, President of the CFM Board of Trustees. We hope to see a lot of entries from people of all ages.

Most people know us from the Festival of the Rivers, a music festival the Museum hosts every Labor Day Weekend. The CFM Museum is now able to provide onsite space for focused exhibits. CFM recently compiled an exhibit about Black History in Summers County with assistance from the WV Humanities Council. The exhibit is transportable to different locations. Currently, it is back at the Museum. The current Gallery exhibit is called, “Dearly Departed” and it features the superstitions and traditions of mourning in the 1800s and early 1900s. This was created with the help of both the Greenbrier and Monroe Counties’ Historical Societies. Admission is free. Donations are welcomed.

The Museum is open Saturdays from 1-4 PM and by appointment. Call 304-445-6548 for a guided tour anytime.
