Hinton WV (Hinton News) – The Summers County Farmers Market is being held every Saturday morning now and running through the summer. The market will be held every Saturday during the months of July through September weather permitting. The market location for all days will be on the Courthouse Square. The market will begin at 8:00 a.m. each sale day.

The market has become very successful and something that buyers look forward to each week. It is a place where they can purchase fresh locally grown vegetables at reasonable prices.

This market is also certified to accept the Senior Nutrition Vouchers along with the WIC vouchers which is a federally funded program through the USDA and administered by the WV Department of Agriculture

With the number of buyers growing each year, the demand for fruits and vegetables has grown. With this in mind, the one thing that is needed to make the market stronger is more vendors. The market is looking for anyone in the area that produces fruit or vegetables and is looking to make additional money. By adding more vendors and increasing the volume and selection at the market we hope to increase the consumer base. The market is designed for local producers in order to provide an outlet for their produce and provide a market for local buyers. All participants must meet the criteria outlined by the marketing group.

If any producer is interested, large or small, you are encouraged to contact David Richmond, WVU Extension Agent at 304 466-7113 or 304-255-9321.
