Curbstone Arts Festival takes place in Hinton

The streets and businesses of Hinton were overflowing with artistic expressions on Saturday, June 4, at the Curbstone Arts Festival. Many styles were on display with everything from expressionism to a living art display.

Many businesses hosted or sponsored local artists. Exhibits filled shops, museums, parks and town buildings. Additionally, sidewalks around town gained new adornments with incredible chalk art.

In the Hinton City Park, the Summers County Library set up a station where participants could create unique splatter art. In addition to the individual pieces, the canvas protecting the ground became its own art installation. According to Austin Persinger, the Library Director, the large canvas project is titled Spring Rhythm No. 22 and is an answer to Jackson Pollock’s Autumn Rhythm No. 30.

Boho, a popular local business, sponsored the cost of creating spin art for the first 100 or so people at the Hillbilly Spin Art booth. This business designs unique spin art on a variety of items.

A living art production took place in the Memorial Building. Performers used backgrounds and costumes to mimic various paintings. They would pose for a specified amount of time, and the original was displayed near the stage.

The Visitors Center also participated in the festivities by providing a photograph station. Visitors and festival-goers were encouraged to stop by for some selfie fun.

Every display, design, and artist brought something remarkable and distinctive to the festival. In addition to all the visual art, musicians played soft music as festival goes enjoyed the exhibits and activities.

For more information on the Curbstone Arts Festival and the future of the event, visit the official Facebook page. You can also stop by the Summers County Visitors Center in Hinton for more information on upcoming events. Additionally, most of the participating businesses and organizations have an active social media presence.
