ATHENS, W.Va. – Esports enthusiasts from Virginia, North Carolina and across southern West Virginia are registered to participate in Concord Esports’ first-ever summer camps. The camps – divided into two age groups – will be held at Concord University’s Esports facility located in the Rahall Technology Center on the Athens campus.
The first camp (Group A) is set for June 13-15, 2022, and will be for participants ages 7-15. The second camp (Group B) will be held from June 16-18, 2022 for ages 16-18. Activities will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily for both camps.
Currently, the youngest players signed up to attend are 9 years old; the oldest camper is 18. Registration is limited at each camp to 30 participants. Spots are still open for both camps, but interested individuals are encouraged to register today.

“Concord Esports is super proud to be hosting our inaugural Esports Summer Camp this year,” Austin Clay, Concord Esports director, says. “I can’t wait to see everyone at the camp and we hope that everyone who comes brings a passion for esports.”
Since beginning competition in the fall of 2019, Concord Esports has grown into a formidable presence in the national collegiate arena with Concord University holding the distinction of being the first public college or university in West Virginia to offer varsity esports to its students. Now, the program will be sharing this experience and expertise with youth during the two summer camps.
Clay says the camps offer youth esports players an opportunity to learn and improve their skills. He explains that the second camp is serving as a recruiting tool for campers ages 16-18 helping them get their “name in front of Concord Esports.”
Campers in the older age group are asked at registration to request a game for the camp and Clay discusses the results thus far.
“League of Legends is the most popular requested game which is a pleasant surprise as we are looking to recruit a League of Legends so that works perfectly for us,” he says.
Clay explains that along with having fun and improving their esports skills at the camps, participants will learn about teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. He adds that while providing youth esports players with an opportunity to sharpen their abilities, the camps are also a way to spotlight and cultivate esports in the state.
Participants can expect to create and play with their own team; play video games and have aim training; enjoy fun trivia games; be eligible for prizes. Each camper will also have a professional headshot taken.
HyperX is joining Concord Esports as a partner in hosting the summer camps. During the trivia game held at lunch each day, HyperX will give out a HyperX Revolver headset for a total of six headsets.
