The Summers County High School baseball team defeated the Richwood Lumberjacks 6-5 on Monday, April 25th, in a home game. Juniors Xander Hudgins and Devin Mansfield led the Bobcats with two hits each in three at-bats.
Neither team scored in the first three innings. Richwood was the first to score when they scored on a single while the bases were loaded in the top of the fourth. The Bobcats answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of that inning. TJ Gill grounded out to short-stop allowing Xander Hudgins to score. Devin Mansfield doubled allowing Grady Allen to score. Ben Lane hit a ground ball and got on by an error while Devin Mansfield scored. Ben Lane scored while Jake Boone reached first on a dropped third strike.
In the fifth inning, Richwood and Summers County ran in one run each, making the score 5-2.
The Bobcats had a four-run lead at the end of the sixth inning thanks to a single by Brandan Isaac that Mansfield scored on. The Lumberjacks were able to score three runs in the seventh but failed to overcome the four-run deficit ending the game, 5-6.
Hudgins and Mansfield each had two hits in three at-bats. Isaac, Gill, and Allen had a hit each in three at-bats. Sam Whittaker and Boone had a hit each in four at-bats. Gill, Isaac, Hudgins, and Mansfield had an RBI each.
