Otter & Oak, a treasure trove of unique items that always smells of delicious coffee, is nestled in historic downtown Hinton. The specialty shop is a regional winner for WV Living’s 2020 Best Place to Shop in the New River/Greenbrier Valley Region. It was also a nominee in 2021 for WV Living’s Best Place to Buy Women’s Clothing and Best Outdoor/Dear Shop.
When you walk into Otter & Oak, it appears to be a typical clothing boutique. However, it is anything but typical. While they do carry a selection of high-end clothing and shoes, they also offer artisan-made goods. Additionally, the small shop provides watercraft rentals. Tubes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards (SUP) are all among the items that Otter & Oak rent out.
With a watercraft vessel, visitors and residents alike have the opportunity to spend the day enjoying Bluestone Lake, the New River, or the Greenbrier River. Hinton is known as the place where three rivers meet. This unique occurrence makes Hinton the perfect spot to take to the water.
After spending the day on the water or shopping Otter & Oak’s selection of wares, head up to the second level of the store. There, patrons will find the Otter Cafe and a brilliant collection of art displayed along the walls.
The Otter Cafe offers a wide selection of coffee beverages and smoothies. Regardless of whether you prefer hot drinks or cold, there is something for everyone. They also provide a long list of flavors that are available to add to a patron’s drink of choice.
While enjoying one of Otter Cafe’s specialty drinks, take some time to peruse the art displayed on the walls. There are gorgeous photographs, fantastic paintings, beautiful drawings and more. Each piece on display is from a local artist, and some are for sale. There are several seats where you can relax and sip your drink. The windows look out over the town with a view of the library, Saint Patrick’s Church and Hinton’s streets.
All of Otter & Oak’s wares are available for purchase in-store and through their online shop. The online shop is available through their website, otterandoak.com as well as through the business’s Facebook page.
