Plans have been made to have a two-week community cleanup beginning Tuesday, October 13. Hinton’s plan is to break the city-wide pickup into six quadrants and the city will pick up larger items on specific days in each quadrant. Couches, furniture, and other household items must be placed on the curbside 24-48 hours prior to each quadrant’s pick up dates. No tires, appliances, paint, chemicals, or household trash will be picked up. The city of Hinton Police will be notifying homeowners that are in violation of city trash codes that they will be given the opportunity to get rid of the trash during the pick-up or be fined for being in violation by not co-operating.
Schedule of Days for Pick-up

October 13 and 14 – City Public Works Garage to 10th Avenue;
October 15 and 16 – 10th Avenue to 2nd Avenue;
October 19 – 2nd Avenue to the Bottom of Avis Bridge;
October 20 – Avis (Remaining);
October 21 and 22 – Lower Bellepoint to Zion Mountain Road;
October 23 – Zion Mountain Road to Summers County Hospital
Note: This is the City of Hinton’s cleanup and there are costs associated, so we don’t want to haul off other folks’ trash. Please be aware of people dumping during this period; report this behavior to Police Chief Nathan Allen at 304-466-3333.
This community clean-up will be held in conjunction with a litter sweep to be held on Saturday, October 10. The focus will be roadways, ditches, and hillsides of visibility within city limits.
The City of Hinton and Beckley are partnering together to promote this important community cleanup project.
Cleaning up the town will take a community effort so the City of Hinton is asking for volunteers and businesses to help by assisting residents in getting items to the curb or even help city workers to load items to be hauled away. The October 10 Litter Sweep will begin at Bellepoint Park with registration beginning at 9 a.m. Vests and bags will be provided. Again, we need volunteers to pick up and haul trash that day. Let’s work together to clean up our great town. Wouldn’t it be great to hear visitors say, “What a beautiful and clean town we have?”
The city has also made a commitment to begin demolishing dilapidated housing. The 11th Avenue slide and seven homes there are scheduled for demolition beginning the week of September 14. This project will take 3-4 weeks to complete and may require some traffic re-routing during demolition from September 14 through October 9.
