The Jumping Branch-Nimitz Volunteer Fire Department (Station 31) recently received a grant from West Virginia American Water, according to a recent announcement. The grant was in the amount of $1,000 and was part of the Firefighting Support Grant program. The amount granted to Station 31 is the maximum amount allowed for this program.
According to the announcement from the fire department, receiving the grant is largely thanks to the efforts of Lieutenant Jason “Bubba” Grose. The announcement further stated that the funds will be used to purchase new rope rescue equipment for the department.
For a department to qualify for the program, they must submit an application to West Virginia American Water within the given time and for each cycle. The current cycle ended with an application deadline of July 15, 2021. The application process includes detailing the project that the fire department would like to fund, the implementation timeline, what problems the project will address, the amount requested and other vital information.
Volunteer fire departments rely on grants to help keep their equipment up to date and acquire additional resources. Funding for volunteer departments is incredibly limited. This is why they need resources such as grants and regional fire fees.
