The Summers County Health Department is holding a drive-thru vaccine clinic for the Pfizer booster dose. The event will take place at the Summers County High School on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Not everyone is eligible for this booster dose. The individual must have had the Pfizer vaccine and have received the second dose no less than six months prior. Eligible categories include anyone aged 65 or older, anyone between 18 and 64 years of age with a chronic medical condition and anyone over 18 who works or lives in a high-risk setting.
Eligible health conditions include cancer, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung disease and heart conditions. Also included are dementia and other neurological conditions, down syndrome, HIV infection and pregnancy. Smokers, current or former are also on the list as well as those with substance use disorders. Those who have received solid organ or blood stem cell transplants are also eligible. Finally, those who have suffered a stroke or cerebrovascular disease, liver disease, are overweight or obese and the immunocompromised.
No appointments will be made for this event, but the Health Department advised that there is a large number of vaccines available and there is no need to arrive early. Individuals must be able to present their vaccine cards to receive the booster.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 6, the Health Department reports the following COVID-19 numbers for Summers County: 74 active cases, six hospitalizations and eight new probable cases.
