GoGig Launches Summers County Broadband Campaign

GoGig Internet has launched a Summers County campaign. GoGig uses advanced fiber technology to create a reliable internet service that allows you to transmit big files, have fast upload and download speeds, and quick data transfer. GoGig is 166 times faster than an average DSL connection and 10 times faster than an average cable connection. GoGig has a track record of success when working with rural communities. It was founded via crowdfunding in 2013 by a dozen tech companies, hundreds of residents and the Town of Blacksburg to bring gigabit fiber internet service plus free Wi-Fi to downtown areas.

In an email interview with Summers County Commissioner- Ted Kula, Kula said “These guys are the real deal and have a proven track record. We appreciate GoGig’s commitment to help bring fiber to Summers County homes. equate high-speed Internet with opportunity. It’s a basic building block for a home-based office, virtual meetings, FaceTime with family and friends, gaming, entertainment…and the list goes on. Without high-speed Internet, we have limited access to these activities that contribute to our quality of life. I’ve seen firsthand where the lack of high-speed Internet has choked economic growth in Summers County. Access to fiber-based internet like GoGig plans to provide is a discriminator for people considering locating in Summers County.”

In an email interview with GoGig’s COO- Paul Summers, Summers said “GoGig is a fiber-to-the-home or FTTH solution. Fiber optic-based Internet provides the highest speed, capacity, reliability, and security of any other network technology. In the majority of the cases with other providers in the area, they are providing services over DSL (copper), coax(copper), or there are no options at all aside from wireless or satellite. Copper solutions typically do not have the ability to provide the higher speeds fiber can provide both for download and upload speeds. An example of this is: the average speed of DSL in Summers County is 5 Mbps (megabits per second) for the download speed and 1 Mbps or less for the upload speed. GoGig will be providing a 1 Gigabit connection which is 1000 Mbps download and upload speeds. What this means for our customers is everyone in a home or business can all be streaming, making video calls, doing homework, etc., at the same time without slowing each other down.

The mission at GoGig has always been to provide blazing fast, high-quality, secure Internet to rural underserved and unserved areas. When we began looking at places to expand in West Virginia, Summers County stood out as a great starting point for a few reasons. First, there is existing infrastructure in the county from which we can build from: multiple backbone fiber providers (companies that provide services to Internet service providers like GoGig) that run through Summers County. Also, when we reached out to the Summers County Commissioners, they were very open to speaking with us, share what the needs of the residents are, and willing to partner with us to help get the word out. Additionally, there are a lot of people in Summers County who have that very slow DSL or really no other options at all that provide speeds required for multiple people to stream, have video calls, do homework, etc. Lastly, we see what a beautiful place Summers County is, and it never hurts to have an excuse to be out in this wonderful part of the country.”

GoGig has divided Summers County into seven “Giggytowns.” The Giggytowns are Alderson -Pence Springs, Crossroads – Brooks, Forest Hill – Ballard, Green Sulphur – Meadow Creek, Hilldale – Talcott, Sandstone- Ramp, and Seminole- Zion Mountain. You can register your address for free with no commitment. Once 60% of addresses in a Giggytown are registered construction is scheduled. Currently Alderson – Pence Springs only has 8% registered, Crossroads – Brooks has 10%, Forest Hill – Ballard has 20%, Green Sulphur – Meadow Creek has 9%, Hilldale – Talcott has 20%, Sandstone- Ramp has 15%, and Seminole- Zion Mountain has 20%. The service is expected to be $89/month for 1,000-megabit service including all fees, taxes, and in-home Wi-Fi.

For more information and to register your address for free please visit gogig.net/summers or call (540)385-3818. There is no cost or commitment for registering, it is only to gauge interest.
