The Greenbrier County Commission is the latest neighboring local government to issue an official acknowledgment of Summers County’s 150th anniversary.
The resolution passed this week reads as follows:
WHEREAS, Summers County was formed in 1871 from parts of Monroe, Mercer, Greenbrier and Fayette counties and was named in honor of George W. Summers, a prominent jurist of Kanawha County and
WHEREAS, the railroad boom of the 20th Century helped to build Hinton and Summers County, and
WHEREAS, tourism has been driven by the natural beauty and history of the County and has become a location of outdoor adventure and exploration, and
WHEREAS, Summers County is beautifully situated off of Interstate 64 and provides easy access to Sandstone Falls, Pipestem and the Bluestone Dam and Lake, and
WHEREAS, the Elected Officials and county employees are dedicated to making their county the best possible place to live, work and visit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNTY COMMISSION OF GREENBRIER COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA:
The Greenbrier County Commission hereby congratulates Summers County on the 150th Birthday and praises the citizens for this wonderful accomplishment on this Ninth day of March, Two Thousand Twenty-One.
The resolution was signed by Greenbrier Commission President Lowell Rose, and Commissioners Michael F. McClung and Tammy Tincher.
