The Summers County Sheriff’s Department has a new chief deputy, and the Hinton Police department has a new K-9 Unit and is open to hiring another officer.
Hinton Police Chief Nathan Allen says if you can do 18 push-ups in a minute, 28 sit-ups in a minute, and run a mile and a half in 14 minutes and 36 seconds you can pass the agility test with the minimum requirements. If you are between the ages of 18 and 40, have a high school diploma or GED, complete an application, pass a background check, civil service exam, medical exam and drug screening/psyche evaluation and pass the interview board, the police department is accepting applications until Feb. 28. Applications can be picked up at the Hinton Police Department.
Every month the chief of police issues a report on department statistics. In the month of December, Chief Allen listed the following activities: 86 calls for service, 8 traffic citations, 16 traffic warnings, 2 DUI related offenses, 10 misdemeanor reports, 11 misdemeanor arrests, 2 felony reports, 0 felony arrests, 3 drug-related offenses, 62 building checks, 7 motor vehicle crashes, and 1 possible overdose.
