A local senior, Taylor Isaac has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Alderson Broaddus College.
Isaac began playing basketball around the age of four after giving up pageants. She says her parents have been coaches since she was in elementary school. This meant she was around the game a great deal, which helped spark her interest.
“Ever since I picked up a ball, I loved it,” Isaac said.
Basketball is not the only sport that Isaac has participated in over the years. She says she has also played volleyball and golf. Although, she continues to play basketball year-round regardless of whether or not the season is in.
Due to the pandemic, Isaac, along with many others, struggled to keep up with practice and workouts. Because of restrictions caused by the pandemic it was rarely possible for her to access the gym. However, she is a tenacious young woman and found ways to continue. She did this by utilizing the local fitness center when it was able to reopen as well as personal equipment at home.
There are many things that seniors look forward to when it comes to heading to college. However, with the pandemic, there are new considerations. Isaac said that while her answer may have been different a few months ago, the thing she is most looking forward to as a college athlete is simply being back on the court. COVID-19 restrictions have prevented many sports and even those who could finally play had to do so without spectators.
Isaac says she chose Alderson Broaddus for several reasons, the first being that “it felt the most like home.”
“I really wanted to have a four-year nursing program and that is something that I was looking for a lot in a school,” Isaac said. “Being able to play basketball and nursing is not going to be easy. So I kinda wanted somewhere that you know the professors are willing to work with athletes especially in a nursing major.”
“I am very honored. I’m blessed to have the opportunities that I did,” Isaac continued. “You know my family just being able to take me where I’m at, I’m very fortunate for them and everything that they’ve done for me.”
