Tis the season of giving and that is exactly what Alderson’s Store is doing. They are holding their annual book drive for the third year in a row. This is a fantastic event that allows the store to provide students at Alderson and Ronceverte Elementary with new books that are either about West Virginia or are written by a West Virginia author.
According to their Facebook page, the store opened on Friday, November 27 for the first time since March. They began their book drive before they were able to open so that they can be sure to provide as many books as possible to students this Christmas.
Their goal is to provide six-hundred books to local elementary school students. They will be accepting donations until December 17 and will be delivering the books the next day.
Participating in this event not only helps out local children, but it is also a way to support many West Virginians. By purchasing these books, support is going to local authors, publishers, illustrators and more! This means support for the local economy as well.
There are several ways to support this book drive. According to the Alderson’s Store Facebook page, patrons can come into the store and choose which book(s) they would like to donate. If someone is not comfortable going to the store, they can call or message the shop on Facebook. The store is currently able to accept “cash, check, credit card info or PayPal.” If someone does not want to pick out books, but still wants to make a donation, the shop will choose books that will maximize each donation.
The store is open every day from 10 a.m until 4 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required inside the store.
