The quaint village of Hinton hosts an old-fashioned bustle of Christmas this weekend, the kind many from this historic railroad town remember from childhood. A theme of shop local has drawn nearly all downtown merchants together with city of Hinton officials to create two complete Saturday Christmas shopping adventures. Brick and mortar storefronts, civic groups, churches, artists, crafts vendors, retail marketers and more are turning every potential location into an event in and of itself. And, as a thank you for coming out to support local commerce on Small Business Saturday this weekend, downtown businesses and the city have a basket of gifts to win just by purchasing from favorite local retailers.

The Guest House Inn is sponsoring a gift basket give away with contributions from Avant Garde, Big Four Drug Store, Bobcat Fitness Center, Boho, City Sidetrack Park & Pool, Detra’s Boutique, Grandma’s House, Hinton Floral, Pinchin Pennies, The City of Hinton, The Market on Courthouse Square, Otter and Oak, The Ritz Theatre, Twin State Professional Salon Supply and the Guest House. All tallied up, Marketing Director Holli Lathroum said the gift basket is valued at over $500!

Gift Basket Give-Away Rules:

Shoppers will have to make at least one purchase and get signatures from at least five of the listed businesses on Small Business Saturday. Once signatures have been acquired, shoppers will show their receipt and drop off their card in a box located at Otter & Oak by 6 p.m. Nov. 28. A gift basket winner will be drawn on Dec. 1 by a Guest House Inn staff member and announced on The Guest House’s Facebook page.

Over 50 shoppers participated in the Gift Basket drawing last year — won by Amy Berry Richmond. This year, the City of Hinton contributed $250, a 1-month membership to the Bobcat Fitness Center, and day passes to the waterslide; Avant Garde – gift certificate; Big Four- gift certificate; Boho – kitchen, craft and home goods; Detra’s – sugar scrubs and a pumice bar; Grandma’s House – a scented candle; Hinton Floral – home decor; Otter & Oak – WV mug; Pinchin Pennies – a long sleeved Hinton t-shirt; The Guest House – a hygiene set; The Market – baking supplies, strawberry champagne jam, and dark chocolate caramel sauce; The Ritz – gift card, Twin State Professional Salon Supply – Moroccan oil gift set; and Hinton Floral is responsible for the beautiful wrapping and basket.
