Betty Furrow, known as Eloise, met her husband after both graduated from Hinton High School. John W. Furrow graduated in 1954 and Eloise two years later in 1956. They didn’t meet until after their graduations.
Eloise went to work at Temple Sweet Restaurant and John worked at a window factory in town. One day he entered the restaurant for lunch and laid his eyes on Eloise for the very first time. By December of 1956 the couple began dating. John and Eloise dated until the following September when he asked her to marry him on October 31, 1957, Halloween.
Once married, Eloise remembers having a happy marriage until his death on his 61st birthday, March 19, 1997. The couple has a son Stephen who is married to Delda Sim Furrow and two grandchildren, Shanon Swetavage and Christopher Furrow. John and and his Halloween bride lived most of their lives in Summers County. This Halloween will be remembered for what would have been their 63rd anniversary.
