CHARLESTON, W.Va. (The Hinton News) – State Treasurer Larry Pack honored nearly two dozen Special Olympics West Virginia athletes during a special recognition ceremony at the State Capitol, celebrating their outstanding achievements at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games this past June. Treasurer Pack also encouraged eligible West Virginians with disabilities to take advantage of the WVABLE Savings Program.

“These remarkable athletes have made West Virginia proud. Their hard work, determination and perseverance are an inspiration to us all and a testament to their extraordinary talent and competitive spirit,” Treasurer Pack said. “Through our WVABLE Savings Program, we want to ensure West Virginians with disabilities have the tools and opportunities to achieve their goals, build financial independence and plan for a bright future.”

During a ceremony in the Upper Rotunda, Treasurer Pack presented certificates of recognition to 22 athletes who represented the Mountain State during the national competition held in Minnesota. The ceremony was hosted through a partnership between the State Treasurer’s Office, it’s WVABLE Savings Program and Special Olympics West Virginia.

WVABLE provides an opportunity for West Virginians with disabilities to save and invest in their futures without jeopardizing certain public benefits. Funds can be used for expenses such as education, housing, transportation, health care and other everyday needs.

The program is available to eligible state residents whose qualifying disability began before age 46. Eligible individuals and their families can take advantage of the now $0 account maintenance fee and the STABLE Account enrollment incentive, which matches the required $25 opening deposit.

To learn more about WVABLE, determine eligibility or to open an account, visit WVABLE.com.

WVABLE is administered by the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office through a partnership with the Ohio Treasurer’s Office STABLE program.
