U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) attends WV Chiefs of Police Association’s Annual Conference in Bridgeport, W.Va. on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (The Hinton News) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), made stops in Bridgeport and Morgantown to celebrate first responders and veterans in West Virginia. She also made a visit to Summersville for a building dedication.

To begin the day, Senator Capito delivered remarks at the WV Chiefs of Police Association Annual Conference in Bridgeport, W.Va. to celebrate the successes of West Virginia’s police force, which she continuously supports through the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) process. Additionally, Senator Capito received updates on the association’s recent collaborative efforts and priorities.

“I was excited to join our law enforcement officers and celebrate them for their outstanding service to West Virginia—which I have been proud to support through my work in the U.S. Senate,” Senator Capito said. “I appreciated the opportunity to hear firsthand how the association is promoting communication and professional development across the state through our police departments. Through the CDS process, I’ve worked to strengthen our local police departments, expand our police force, and provide them with the proper resources to keep West Virginian’s safe. I am impressed by association’s efforts to connect West Virginia’s police force, and I’m proud to partner with them to keep that collaboration moving forward.”

“The West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association Fall Conference provides an important opportunity for law enforcement leaders from across our state to come together, strengthen partnerships, and discuss the issues facing our profession and the communities we serve,” Chief Mark Rogers, Bridgeport Police Department, WV COPA Board Member said. We are honored to welcome United States Senator Shelley Moore Capito to this year’s conference. We recognize the tremendous demands on her schedule, and her willingness to spend time with West Virginia’s law enforcement leaders is sincerely appreciated and makes her attendance especially meaningful to our association.”

Next, Senator Capito traveled to Morgantown, W.Va. to attend Operation Activet’s Annual Veterans Bash. While there, she delivered remarks celebrating Operation Activet’s success and met with veterans. Operation Activet plays a vital role in West Virginia, connecting veterans and first responders through community events across the state.

“It was an honor to celebrate our men and women in uniform. Connecting our veterans and first responders through meaningful opportunities is so important. I am proud of the work being done here and deeply appreciative of Operation Activet’s efforts in creating a community for those who have sacrificed so much for our country,” Senator Capito said.

“Operation Activet was founded by my son, C.J., an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, because he wanted to give back and help his fellow veterans,” Chuck Ghuste, President of Operation Activet, said. “After we lost C.J. in 2019, our family and so many dedicated volunteers committed ourselves to keeping his dream alive. Today, we’re proud to bring veterans and first responders together through activities, camaraderie, and a strong community of support. We’re grateful to Senator Capito for taking the time to visit with us, learn more about our mission and show her support for the veterans and first responders we serve.”

To end the day, Senator Capito traveled to Summersville, W.Va. where she delivered remarks at WV Young Life’s dedication of three new buildings: the Dining Hall, Club Room, and dorms. During the visit, she also toured the facility to view progress.

“WV Young Life’s campus is a remarkable place that reflects the faith, vision, and persistence of so many people who believed in what this property could become,” Senator Capito said. “I’m proud to have played a role in supporting the infrastructure needed to bring this vision to life, and I’m grateful that generations of young West Virginians will now have a place of their own to grow, build relationships, and share God’s love.”
