HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – Last month we asked the community to come together and discuss division and reconciliation. Seeing the room filled with individuals ready and willing to bridge the gap was a joy. While Jesus openly claimed that he came to cause division, I don’t believe red vs. blue is what he had in mind. You may have heard the phrase, “addition by subtraction” which refers to improvement by removing hindrances. I believe Jesus was encouraging us to remove anything that separated us from our brothers and sisters – social status, biases, pride, and conditions set by ourselves and society. He was – and is – calling us to a higher level of forgiveness, acceptance, and love. God’s love is limitless, but humans tend to restrict those feelings. Jesus gave us many examples of how to do this. He strips away all labels – whether they be good or bad. Jew or gentile, citizen or tax collector, woman or adulterer – and reminds us that underneath we are alike.
We hope you can join us for Inaugurating Reconciliation II on Saturday, March 8 from 2-4. This session will be a little different. Instead of answering pre-determined questions, speakers will present ideas, concepts, and questions to encourage meaningful discussion regarding ethics, choices, rights, responsibility, government, and resistance efforts when change is needed. Refreshments and small group discussions will follow before we end the meeting in prayer. If you have questions, please call or text Sister Nancy at 304-860-9446.
