HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – This year’s Christmas Walk will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 starting at 6 p.m. at Ascension Episcopal Church. Ascension is located at the corner of Temple and 5th Ave, directly across from the old middle school.
Christmas is a glorious and beautiful time of the year. It’s a time for coming together and living out those great commandments to love God and to love our neighbors. The Christmas walk is about just that, gathering in love with others to celebrate God’s goodness.
It is a story made of truth and imagination, tradition and expectation. The focus of this year’s walk is ‘Light in the Darkness’. Even in the darkness with the problems we face today, that light shines through.
We will visit six beautiful downtown churches, steeped in history and mystery. A part of that mystery is that even though we have different beliefs and ideas, we come together in love. And that makes it beautiful.
Most of these churches were formed in the late 1800s, during Hinton’s heyday. For about 150 years they have clung to the truth that comes from God. The architecture is awe-inspiring, especially as they are decked out for the coming Christmas celebration.
After visiting these churches, we will gather in the space next to the First Methodist Church for warm drinks, snacks and renewing old friendships.
Come and be a part of this annual celebration of Christmas. It’s a most wonderful time of the year, as we remember the light that always, always shines.
