SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – A new school year can bring many changes. For three schools in Summers County, the new school year brings a new principal.

Summers County High School is now under the direction of Dr. Kevin Green who has been in the Summers County school system for a few years. Green who started his time in Summers at the high school complex is happy to return there with a different title.

“Coming back to SCHS as the principal is like coming home! SCHS is where I got my start as an administrator and employee of Summers County Schools. After service of two and a half years as assistant principal of SCHS and two years as principal of Jumping Branch Elementary, I felt the calling to come back to lead a school that will always hold a special place in my heart. Don’t get me wrong, my time as Principal at Jumping Branch Elementary was amazing and I will always treasure those memories.” Green stated.

With his new title, Dr. Green has goals he hopes to accomplish at SCCHS. He shared those goals stating,

“Coming back to SCHS, I hope to help move this school forward so that all students are able to achieve their goals, and each staff member feels valued, respected, and supported. It is my goal that SCHS one day becomes a Blue Ribbon School. In order to do that, we, the students, staff, and the community will have to coordinate all of our efforts in the same direction, which is student achievement. While this might seem like a tall order, it necessarily isn’t. You see, SCHS has a history of reaching peaks of success, and this time will be no different!”

Talcott Elementary School is now led by Becca Eerenberg Brown, a Summers County native and graduate. Brown while responsible for the PK-5 school, will get to help oversee the completion of reopening of the Talcott Gymnasium. Brown spoke about her excitement regarding her new position and return to Summers County Schools.

“I am thrilled to begin this new school year as Talcott Elementary’s principal! The staff is world-class and I cannot wait to meet the students! It is my goal to create a school where students are safe, expectations are clear, and learning skyrockets. We are so grateful to the community who has already reached out with supplies! Our new mission statement sums up everything we are trying to accomplish now and in the future: We, the Pirates of Talcott Elementary School, are growing as leaders and learners. We give back to those around us because we are better together. We are kind, we are safe, we are respectful. And that’s the Pirate Way!” said Brown.

David Pack has made the shift from an assistant principal at SCCHS to the principal of Jumping Branch Elementary. Pack spoke on his and his staff’s commitment to serving JBE students to their best ability.

“I am excited to be the new principal at Jumping Branch Elementary. I hope to help teachers and students to create an enriching and enjoyable work and learning environment. I am looking forward to getting to know the students and people from the community.  The staff and I are committed to getting the students at JBE the best possible start to their learning experience. We are also looking forward to the community events and award ceremonies throughout the school year. We have a great group of dedicated staff and a support team that will help the students become the best they can be. Go Tigers!” said Pack.
