HINTON (Hinton News) – It’s the time of year again when Hinton is preparing for the annual Water Festival. People from all over come to take part in the events happening throughout the week and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
This year there’s a new edition to the event list, the food truck festival sponsored by Botany Tropicals. The event is scheduled for July 26 from 4 – 8 p.m., on 3rd Avenue in downtown Hinton. Some food trucks participating will be Kobe Fusion, Lobster Trappin and Taco Trolley. Additionally, Riverside Kitten Rescue will be set up during the food truck festival, so be sure to stop by and show your support for them. If you post pictures on social media, remember to tag Botany Tropical and use the hashtag #TasteOfHintonFoodTruckRally to share with all your friends.
The Water Festival kicks off on Saturday, July 22, with a full day of fun activities for the entire family. A pet parade and animal show will be downtown from 10 a.m. until noon.
The ever-popular youth art show will open at the Summers County Library at 10 a.m. Be sure to show support for your favorite pieces.
Next up will be a returning favorite in the pretty baby contest. You can catch all the cuteness at the freight depot between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
JonBen Slate will be performing at the City Park starting at 5:30 up until 9 p.m. This band is always popular, be sure to catch them this time around.
If swimming is your thing, the water festival has you covered. A night swim will be at Wild Water Express from 8 until 11 p.m.
Tuesday, July 25, brings the crowning of Queen Mermaid at the Ritz Theater. This lovely event takes place starting at 6 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m.
On Wednesday, in addition to the food truck festival, there will be music at City Park from 6 – 8 p.m.
Thursday will see plenty of events to keep you busy and happy with vendors on the courthouse lawn beginning at 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Next will be a youth art show reception at the Summerd County Library at 5 p.m.
Then for your festival enjoyment, is the Queen’s banquet at the Freight Depot from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
A street dance for the youth will take place on second avenue 8 – 10 p.m.
Friday, July 28, will get off to a delicious start with the Kiwanis pancake breakfast held at St Patrick’s Church. Start your festival fun with delicious food while helping out a wonderful cause. The breakfast is from 8 – 11 a.m.
Vendors will be set up on the courthouse lawn for your shopping pleasure. You might find that item you can’t live without. Vendors are open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
The ever-popular Fireman’s Parade will be at 8 p.m. in downtown Hinton. Come show support for your favorite emergency services.
Stay for the fireworks that follow the fireman’s parade at 9 p.m. Enjoy a gorgeous display that will light up the night sky.
Saturday has another chance to catch the vendors and the pancake breakfast. If you missed out on Friday, take advantage of these fun events before they’re gone.
The grand parade is one you don’t want to miss. Taking place downtown beginning at 11 a.m.
Keith Adkins will perform his popular magic show again this year at 2 p.m. on the courthouse lawn stage. Be sure to check it out for a fun time.
Reachh is sponsoring a deck your bike event. Register by 10 a.m. in front of Pivonts Funeral Home. Ages 5-13, enter those bikes decorated with a water theme and try for the prize.
The Queen’s reception will be at the McCreary Hotel 2 – 3 p.m., and the rubber ducky race is also in the same time slot at the Point.
End a wonderful festival week at the Queen’s Ball to be held at the WillowWood Country Club with music by Mark Trump of Maple Hill Entertainment. Tickets are $25 for single and $40 for couples. Seating is limited, and this is a 21 and over-only event.
