HINTON, (Hinton News) – Friday’s Class AA semifinal between the No. 1 Summers County Lady Bobcats and No. 5 Charleston Catholic Lady Irish was a thriller for fans. Scoring remained close for most of the game, but the Lady Bobcats came through, defeating the Irish 39-34 to advance to Championship Saturday for the first time since 2011.

The Lady Irish led at the end of the first half 21-19, but the Lady Bobcats answered in the second half by scoring 20 points to the Lady Irish’s 14 points.

Summers County’s Gracie Harvey led the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with her 17 points. Avery Lilly trailed behind Harvey with 9 points. Abby Persinger contributed 6. Despite a recent muscle injury, Sullivan Pivont added 5. Liv Meador contributed 2 points in the winning effort. Ashley Cooper and Cheyenne Smith were substituted into the game to relieve the starting five when necessary.

The Lady Bobcats will play in the AA Championship game tomorrow against the winner of the Wyoming East and Petersburg game that will be taking place at 7:15 PM.
