Hinton native Art Callaham publishes new book, On America

In a time and place when divisiveness has run amok, essayist, executive and critic-at-large Art Callaham focuses on the one thing that still unites us all: our citizenship. In his new book “On America,” Callaham reflects on the common values and shared experiences of those who have loved, laughed, cried and served in the land we call home.

In 46 vignettes arranged in sections devoted to family, friends, war and peace, and country, Callaham shares views developed over a lifetime of work and service to his country, state, town and community. The vignettes are thought-provoking and sure to encourage lively discussion. There are political pieces, environmental pieces, pieces on taxes, and, yes, even a little sex.

Growing up in a small, West Virginia community, playing sports, fighting in Vietnam and going on to rise in the corporate world, Callaham has witnessed America first-hand from multiple perspectives. He boils these experiences down to their essence in entertaining and common-sense essays that reaffirm our roles as citizens of the greatest land on earth.

Agree with him or not, Callaham’s greater goal is to encourage readers to keep an open mind and to think, as he challenges us to meet at our common intersection, as Americans.

The book is intended to engender discussion, among family, friends and has been called “the perfect book club read” by early readers.

Published by High Peaks Publishing, On America is 254 pages, and available in both paperback (ISBN: 978-1-7377313-2-0, $14.95) and Hardcover (ISBN: 978-1-7377313-3-7. $16.95). The book is available from Amazon and selected outlets.

Art Callaham is a retired US Government workforce developer and a Vietnam-era veteran. After retiring, Art spent twelve years as the Executive Director of the Greater Hagerstown organization, a catalyst for business and economic development in Washington County, Maryland, and the surrounding Quad-State area.

He has an undergraduate degree in management from the University of Maryland and a Master’s of Business Administration from Mount Saint Mary’s University. As an adjunct professor for more than forty years. Art has taught business, management, economics and state government at Hagerstown Community College, the University of Maryland, Mount Saint Mary’s University, Penn State University and Purdue University.

Art is married to Ruth Anne Cardwell Callaham, his life’s love for over 50 years. He currently lives in Richmond, TX
