I am Renee Meador Farley and I am running for the Summers County Board of Education, New River District. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the citizens of our community who are not familiar with me and my family. I am the daughter of the late Wayne Meador and Juanita Vass Meador; granddaughter of the late Walter and Ocie Huffman Vass and the late Kyle and Mildred Doyle Meador. Following graduation from Hinton High School, I attended Concord College, now University, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Management Concentration and an Associates Degree in Travel Industry Management. My business degree carried me through an amazing career as Office Manager for various Nascar teams in North Carolina. Then when I moved my children back to Hinton to raise them on the same block where I grew up, I worked as a Legal Secretary for a local law firm and as a church secretary.
My wonderful husband, Joe Farley, Jr., retired from his privately owned masonry company to become a Bus Operator for Summers County Schools. We are blessed to have three adult children who are all graduates of Summers County High School, Lyndsey Jo – 2010, Jacob -2014, and Tucker -2018.
My training and experience over the years have included: Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) behavioral training sessions for 2 years. National United Methodist Church Safe Sanctuaries training sessions, which were required for my roles as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School volunteer and Youth Group Leader. These sessions were invaluable for the safety and protection of children of all ages inside and outside the classroom. And most importantly, life experience as the mom of a Summers County Bobcats football player, marching band sax player, math tutor, art show finalists, 4-H members and FFA members.
I would never have thought of myself as a persuasive salesperson. However, I am giving it “all I got” to sell you this temporary Board of Education member who wants to be a long-term Board member. The love of our six Littles for which I provide daycare, the care for your children and concern for their entire support system is what prompted me to apply for the recent vacant seat on the Board in January. I have enjoyed serving on the Board these past few months, knowing that maybe I am making a difference. I strive every week to learn about all of the items on the upcoming agenda, I research the ones I am unfamiliar with, and I come to a meeting prepared to make decisions. I am not afraid to ask questions, as you have probably witnessed from watching the Board meetings. I want what is best for our kids. And, as a small, close-knit community, we all have friends and family that work tirelessly in the school system and I want to be available for them as well. This 1966 model still runs fine, despite slight wear and tear! You won’t regret your decision!
Your vote on Tuesday, May 10th, for Renee Farley in the New River District is much appreciated.
