Despite a thick layer of fog, local fire departments brought joy and delight to the area with a Christmas Parade of Lights on Saturday, Dec. 18. Each fire truck was decorated with Christmas lights and other adornments. Holiday music played along with the sirens as the parade made its way along the route.
Cars gathered along the road in every available space. People stood on their porches and at their windows. Smiles could be seen all around as the fire trucks passed with some firefighters even shouting “Merry Christmas!” Even Santa and the Grinch joined in the fun and rode atop the trucks.
One of the parade participants, KK Ratliff, went the extra mile. She took the time to gather knitted and crocheted items such as hats and scarves made by herself and other local crafters. She sealed each item in a bag and then tossed them to individuals standing along the route to watch the parade.
At the conclusion of the parade, participants and watchers alike headed to John Henry Park for a bonfire with cookies and hot chocolate. They kept the lights running on the fire trucks and the festive air prevailed.
