WARD
Russell Lee “Peanut” Ward, 50, of Hinton, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.
Born September 21, 1971 in Beckley, he was the son of Linda Carol Vandall Ward of Hinton and the late Adolphus Gene Ward.
Russell was a 1989 graduate of Hinton High School. He followed in the footsteps of his father as a contractor in the electrical utilities industry. He was employed by Richardson & Wayland Electric, working in the D.C. area with Dominion Power as long as his health permitted. He was a member of IBEW, Local 70 in Washington, D.C. Russell was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Adolphus Gene Ward.
Survivors include his mother, with whom he resided, Linda Carol Vandall Ward; one daughter, Kaylee Stump (Jon) and their two children, Kenzie and Cayden Stump of Riner, VA; three sons, Stephen, Brian, and Joshua Ward; a brother, James Ward of Hinton; his beloved dog, Copper, along with his step-mother, Barbara Ward of Jumping Branch. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Scott Ross officiating. Burial followed in Hilltop Cemetery in Hinton. Friends could call from 12 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Hospice team that provided excellent care in the final weeks and to Russell’s caretaker at home, Sherry Canaday.
