The Summers County Christmas Toy Fund has been an institution in Summers County for over 30 years in its current format. Originally sponsored by the Hinton Ruritan Club in 1992, Mr. Darrell Lilly took over organizing the drive from Mr. Howard Creed in 2006. Summers County citizens (current and former) have come together every year to support families in need to enjoy the magic of Christmas, knowing their children will have gifts under the tree. Darrell Lilly is looking for a volunteer to take over Chairmanship of the Toy Fund starting in 2022. He invites candidates to work with him in 2021 to learn the process. Please contact Mr. Lilly for details at (304) 466-0476.
If your family lives in Summers County and has a need at Christmas time, please pick up your application at the DHHR Office at City Hall in Hinton. Applications will be available starting November 1 through November 30, 2021. The children considered for the program range in age from newborn to twelve years of age and must live in Summers County. All applications are reviewed to establish eligibility (no bicycle requests, please). All approved applicants will be notified by mail as to when the gifts will be given to the children.
We invite all volunteers to play their part in the Toy Fund Drive. Ways you can help are to make a tax deductible donation, help with shopping at the Walmart on Eisenhower Drive in Beckley on December 6 and 7, or to help prepare the gifts to be given out on December 9 and 10. Please call Darrell Lilly at (304) 466-0476 with any questions or to volunteer.
To make a donation, make checks payable to HINTON AREA FOUNDATION (“Christmas Toy Fund” in the memo), and mail to this address ONLY: Summers County Toy Fund, PO Box 67, Nimitz WV 25978. Contributions can also be made online through the Hinton Area Foundation website at www.hintonareafoundation.org (Donate Now button).
Thank you,
Darrell Lilly, Chairman, Summers County Christmas Toy Fund.
