The Beckley Sanitary Board may be moving to a new location faster than expected.
During the Tuesday, Sept. 28, meeting of the common council, Mayor Rob Rappold announced that city officials will host a special workshop meeting to discuss funding for a new facility.
Back in August, Rappold announced that the sanitary board, located on Heber Street, had outlived its current facility.
In an interview with The West Virginia Daily News following that meeting, Rappold said that the current building was purchased about 25 years ago.
“It was a former car dealership and the second floor was added for administrative offices,” Rappold noted. “It is overcrowded, some of the offices are doubled up and that is not the best situation.”
At the end of the interview, Rappold said that the city will be stepping up its efforts to find a new home for the sanitary board. In August, officials were looking at a site on New River Drive adjacent to the Beckley Moose Lodge, however, a private investor was also interested in the property.
The special workshop will be held on Monday, Oct. 4, at 5:05 p.m. and will include a discussion on the fate of the property at 227 Prince Street.
The meeting will be streamed via WebEx. A link will be made available on the city’s Facebook page as well as the City of Beckley website.
