The Summers County Bobcat Baseball team traveled to Warren Williams Field in Beckley on Friday, June 4 to once again take on the Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders in a sectional elimination game.
The game tied in the first inning, 1-1. In the second inning, Greater Beckley scored two runs, making the score 1-3. Summers County answered with two runs of their own in the third inning, which tied the game, 3-3. Greater Beckley had a big fourth inning, scoring six runs and taking the lead, 3-9. Summers County scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, making the score 4-9 and got their outs quickly in the bottom to end the inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Summers County scored five runs, taking the lead and making a comeback, 11-9, over Greater Beckley. In the seventh inning, the Bobcats scored two additional runs, making the score 13-9. Summers County got their outs quickly in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game. Those outs came from a groundout to shortstop Brandan Isaac and two strikeouts pitched by Gracin Price.
Gracin Price was on the pitcher’s mound for Summers County and lasted all seven innings. Summers County’s Logan Fox had the only homer of the game.
The Bobcats had twelve hits on the day. Ben Lane led with three. Maverick Harper, Fox, and Isaac had two a piece. Levi Jones, Will Taylor, and Sam Whittaker each had one.
Fox led in RBIs for Summers County with five. Jones and Isaac followed with two. Ben Lane had one RBI as well.
Summers County stole four bases. Lane stole three of those and Harper stole one.
The Bobcats will again travel to James Monroe on Saturday, June 5 and play at noon.
