The speed is accelerating for those still awaiting a phone call to receive an appointment to receive a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Now that vaccination clinics are being held in Hinton the number of shots per day is going up. Summers Health Department administrator and clinic facilitator Chad Meador predicted that healthcare workers, with the help they are receiving onsite with required paperwork, can begin vaccinating as many as 48 people per hour.
“Last Thursday over 200 people over the age of 65 with scheduled appointments found getting vaccinated was a breeze … By the end of the week the list of over 800 people in this age group should be dwindled down to about 150,” said Meador. “When we are done with this initial list on the health department’s waiting list, we will give their names to the state and they will have priority.”
Everyone is encouraged to register with the state to get on the list for appointments.
With no lines and no hanging around to receive a shot, Meador observed the only people sitting and waiting are those required to sit for 15 minutes before they leave. The vaccination process is beginning to run like a well-oiled machine, Meador said.
This Thursday, the health department has been promised an additional 100 doses of vaccine, which means as many as 300 people can get their shot. If this continues, those 65 years old will begin to be inoculated.
No one can receive the vaccine without an appointment. To get on the list for an appointment call 1-833-734-0965 or register online at vaccinate.wv.gov.
