Summers County Commissioner Jack David Woodrum has submitted his resignation to transition into his role representing Summers County and the district it embodies in the West Virginia State Senate. Woodrum’s last day on the county commission is the last day of December.
He will thereafter be sworn in to take his new seat as senator on January 13 and ready to serve in the state legislature when it convenes in February. Members of both political parties and independents have expressed optimism and a comfort level working with Woodrum in his new position.
Woodrum says he is determined to represent everyone in this district, the Democrats, Republicans, and Independents:
“I’m going to do what I can for the district. I had a lobbyist recently try to get me to commit to something and I told ‘em, I’ve got to be in touch with my district’s people,” Woodrum declared. “The things that separate us, nationally, are things we have little control over. But, locally, most things we agree on and we can move forward on those projects, here and on a state level.”
Many have expressed Woodrum’s new role will be an asset for Summers County and for accomplishing many good things beneficial to the community here and within the district, he will be serving going into the new year and into the future.
The letter reads:
“To the Honorable Members of the Summers County Commission; Mr. Lloyd W. “Bill” Lightner and Mr. Charles W. Saunders, Commissioners, and the Clerk of the County Commission, the Honorable, Mary Beth Merritt.
Gentleman and Madam Clerk, it has been an honor and a privilege to have served the residents of Summers County and our region as a member of this commission over the last ten years. Working with you and my colleagues in local government has been both meaningful and challenging and one of the highlights and greatest joys of my life.
At this time, it is appropriate that I tender my resignation effective December 31st, 2020 as an elected officeholder of the Summers County Commission pursuant to the dual office-holding restrictions outlined in The West Virginia Constitution Article 6, 13.
I look forward to working with you and the incoming members of the commission in my new capacity as a member of the West Virginia Senate so that together we can continue to serve the residents of Summers County, our region and the great State of West Virginia.
As we transition into the new year during a very difficult time in our nation’s history I am reminded of a quote from Henry Ford “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”
I look forward to your successes in the coming year.
Respectfully,
Jack David Woodrum
Senator-Elect Jack David Woodrum, President
Summers County Commission”
