New construction for independent senior living can begin. Main Street Care just received a $743,295.00 grant to build housing where the row buildings used to be on Temple Street. The grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank in Pittsburgh, a government bank investing in community development, means the land can be prepared, cleared and construction can begin this spring on the first four units on the site.
News of the grant arrived late last week and was immediately shared with The Hinton News.
Longtime volunteer Cleo Mathews, working with Main Street Care President Mary Lou Haley and Attorney Keith Lively, said “We have been waiting for this grant to break ground for this new construction. This grant will help us keep costs low because our people, who may want to move into other housing, cannot afford to pay a whole lot. We sought this funding from FHLB to keep the fees down.”
Main Street Care helped reinstate the 3rd-floor skilled-nurses unit at Summers ARH. Mathews continued by sharing “the first four units will be built along Temple, and then more down 9th Avenue. Once completed, we will go back to the property near the hospital, with independent living, assisted and long-term care.”
