Vote now and vote often for your pretty pets in this annual Summers County contest.
Fall has finally arrived and while so many events have been put off for a year, a few events must go on. One of them is an important fundraiser that usually takes place prior to and during Hinton’s Railroad Days. The Prettiest Pet Contest is Summers County Humane Society’s largest fundraiser of the year. This year they have started the event on line and will finish it at Small Business Saturday on November 28.
Animal lovers from far and wide (not just Hinton or West Virginia) upload a picture of their pet(s) to prove to the world that theirs’ is the prettiest. While the Best in Show (the pet with the most votes) gets their name on a custom-built wood trophy that is proudly displayed at the Summers County Library, there are several categories to enter including Prettiest Dog, Cat, Group, Other, Special Needs, Silliest and ACWP Alumni. Best in Show will also receive a hand-painted and framed original watercolor painted by local artist Alexandra Miller. Categories will receive a plaque. Everyone gets bragging rights.
Why is this event so important? While it is fun to proudly display pictures of pets, fur-kids, farm family, whatever you would like to call them. It is a fundraiser, and the Summers County Humane Society works solely from donations, grants and fundraisers. So, go to their Facebook page to find the link or email them with questions. Or even call and leave a message on their voicemail. This ALL volunteer group is here to help the animals of the county thru spay/neuter programs, food distribution and rehoming those needing to be rehomed.
The entry fee is $5, vote online for $1 per vote, or vote in person during Small Business Saturday with any amount.
