The Summers County Schools LPN coordinator position has been posted by the Board of Education, but the application process itself has nurses and applicants scratching their heads. LPN School Advisory Committee member Cleo Mathews says “I feel like the language in the job posting is confusing.” She said she feels an extension is needed.
Last minute knowledge of funds availability to support the LPN school met with a great sigh of relief from student applicants and many of those who have worked for decades to develop an outstanding professional training program for aspiring nurses.
“It has always been a one-year program and extending it beyond one year doesn’t make any sense,” Mathews said.
Hidden within the body of the 6-page job posting are hints that the intent is to stretch out the length of the program for 18 months.
“That, in itself, is reason for concern. The program only requires 12 months of training. An 18-month training would pose a hardship on students eager to begin their careers and healthcare employers in huge need of trained licensed practical nurses,” Mathews insisted. “As you read through the post other unclear requirements muddy up the process.”
