Charred remains of an unoccupied house in Hinton as of Sunday. September 20. Fire was reported at 822 Temple Street at 9:30 Saturday night and firefighters spent seven hours, assisted by surrounding communities, containing and extinguishing the blaze, sparing the neighboring house from any damage. Fire Chief Ray Pivont says the fire appeared to have started under the front porch and quickly spread through the two story structure owned by Dr. Edward Lilly. Last weekend’s fire leaves an entire block from 9th to 10th avenues with four burned out houses. Although the Fire Chief couldn’t say what exactly sparked the fire, Pivont says it only takes a match to rapidly destroy some of Hinton’s older wooden houses.
