The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported that another four residents have died due to complications associated with COVID-19.

In a statement posted on the DHHR website, Cabinet Secretary Bill Crouch stated: “We send our sympathies to these families, and urge all West Virginians to continue to protect each other by wearing a mask, washing hands and staying socially distant.”

The announcement came one-day after the state lost 10 residents to the pandemic. Of those confirmed deceased on Thursday, September 16 was a 69-year old Berkeley County man, a 75-year old Berkeley County man, an 80-year old Roane County man and a 91-year old Jackson county woman.

234 new cases of COVID-19 were identified within the past 24-hours, causing the daily positivity-rate to increase once again to 4.93%. West Virginia’s cumulative positivity-rate continues to rise, and is now 2.70%.

The state has had a total of 13,109 confirmed cases since the onset of the pandemic, with 9,485 of those having now recovered.

According to the DHHR’s daily-updated color-coded county map, Pocahontas is once again trending towards the orange. The county’s seven-day positive-case average as of Thursday is 13.86, up from 12.99 on Wednesday. A county will be designated as orange if their average reaches 15 cases. The W.Va. Department of Education will update their color-coded map on Saturday, September 19, at 5 p.m.
