On March 27, 2020, President Donald J. Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) into law. The Act included $400 million in new Help America Vote Act (HAVA) emergency funds, made available to states through the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus for the 2020 federal election cycle. The EAC allocated $3,807,691 to West Virginia for additional resources to protect the 2020 elections from the effects of the novel coronavirus.
Greenbrier County requested and was awarded $33,789.48 from the CARES Act, and Pocahontas County was awarded $6,419.
